Operation Christmas Child Success!

This year we decided to ask the congregation to help Crossroads fill more boxes than we have done in the past.  We weren't sure how the response would be at first. I can say now it was a HUGE success.

Thanks to the Crossroads youth and families for donating items and for packing 74 boxes!!

What an awesome way to be the Presence of Jesus to kids around the world.

Lead by Action and Serving Others

Most people think Leadership is a loud voice telling others what to do. Is that what you think? We learned that leaders aren't always leading by voice, but more importantly they lead by actions. By helping others, making good choices, working hard and serving others we can become good leaders.  It is more important to show leadership than to be heard.

Teams were challenged to work as a team to build a tower with a marshmallow on top, the highest tower won. Watching the way kids led groups both with voice and action was fascinating. The group that started the slowest and looked to have a rough time ended up winning with a tower 7+ inches over the #2 group. Enjoy the photos!

Learning about Simon the Sorcerer

First we listened to our guest speaker talk about her life changing event that turned her to Christ. It is amazing to hear some of the sad and horrible things that people can go through - but in the end it is turned to good. As our guest said "I had a choice to make, be angry forever or turn to God and change my life".  This is a good lesson for us all, as we get mad, frustrated or angry. We can choose how to let life control us...or we can let God control it.

After our speaker, Kyle taught a lesson on Simon the Sorcerer and played some Jeopardy to see how much they learned.

Hannah - Prayer

We played a quiz game to learn more about Hannah and prayer last night. The kids had a great time racing to the buzzer in hopes to beat the other teams. Hannah's story is a great one to remind us that prayer is important, necessary, and God wants us to do it.  He may not answer the prayers the way we want, but he hears them all.

Our guest speaker told of a story that happened when he was 14 years old that changed his life. The kids were able to hear about a tragic accident that thankfully had a good ending. When tragedy happens it can shape us for years to come. It can place us in a position to be thankful for each day, and remind us that God's plan for our life may look different than we think.

Coming up...

Jonah - Retelling the Story We Know in a New Way

Watching students retell the familiar story of Jonah in skits was extremely fun, and funny. Although, it is a familiar story the kids had to think a bit deeper about what was really happening.  Was the fish a place similar to "time out" where Jonah could reflect on his choices? Or was Jonah just lucky that fish came along and saved him from drowning? I think both maybe correct, and it's a nice reminder that even when we make bad choices God will give us grace to scoop us up and help us think about our mistakes. Enjoy the pictures below of the kids doing skits and discussing the story in small group time.  Be watching for information on an upcoming Service Project.

Following God's Plan

It's not always easy following a plan that we don't fully understand.  We looked at the life of King Saul and then King David. Neither man had planned to be king, but how you handle yourself in a situation makes all the difference.

We will be looking at people's stories this year and how they can their faith walk. Soon we will welcome guests to speak into how their lives maybe took a twist they didn't understand at the time, but now see the whole picture.

Our verse this year is from James. Here is a nice cartoon that illustrates the verse well.

Check out the snack Sign up and fill out the student registration if you haven't already.

Here are a few pictures from Sunday.
