Serving Our Church

This evening was a great and productive night.  Kids made cookies to be used for our Sunday Fellowship time after church. They all worked hard to get the job done.

Quiet Time

February 12, we spent most of the evening reflecting on quiet time.  We even spent over 4 whole minutes in the quiet sanctuary.  Many kids said 4 minutes felt so much longer, some enjoyed the quiet, others did not.

We talked about clearing our minds and making space in our lives for quiet time with God.  At first I thought this may be a hard or boring topic; but we actually had a great conversation about it.  I pray that they can learn to make time to calm themselves and just "be".

After our discussion we tried our hand a being patient and working with partners to carefully move a spaghetti noodle...or 5 in a relay race.  A delicate task but they all ended up succeeding.

Bowling Fun!

We had a great time bowling!  Even though the snow tried to scares us off, we had a great turnout for a fun evening.   No Youth Group on February 5 (Hudsonville has winter break).  See you on February 12, 6-7pm.

Nehemiah 3 - The Value of Unity and Teamwork

What does the bible say about unity and teamwork?  Well in the repetitive nature of the Old Testament we can learn about it in the re-building of the wall around Jerusalem.

We discussed how many workers can make light work but there were four main points we focused on.

1.  Burdens are lighter when everyone works together.
2.  Work goes faster when everyone works together.
3.  Each person's work is important.
4.  Each person is due recognition for their work.

It's so great to get these kids playing a game and then dive into a lesson that connects to the game. They can easily answer questions and see the connections.  I think they are even surprised at how the Bible isn't so hard to connect to "real" life after all.

Enjoy these photos from the game...they were saran wrapped as a team and had to complete an obstacle course--working together.

Half way there, pretty much tied up at this point.

Helping Others - Our Actions - Taking a Stand

What would you do?  After watching a blind man get taken advantage of it got us all thinking...what would we do?  Would we speak up and help? Would we get angry? Would we turn our head and pretend we didn't see the injustice?

Nehemiah 5:1-13 shows of an injustice and also shows how to stand up against the injustices we see.

Nehemiah had to deal with a conflict just like you and I may need to.  We learned three simple steps to handling it.

1.  Air the complaint to the proper authority or person.  If the proper people don't know of the problem how can we expect them to deal with it.  Be sure to be clear about the problem.

2.  The leader/person working to resolve the problem should do so in a biblical manner.

  • Stop what you are doing to address the problem
  • Maintain self control
  • Have righteous anger, anger isn't always sinful if it is righteous and directed against the sinful treatment of others.
3.  Be willing to submit to God, His Word and Godly leaders.

We as God's children, are called to speak out and bring what's right into this world. We need to stand up and take risks by speaking up, even when it's tough. People are waiting for us to speak up, and they will follow!

Blind trusting the helpers...but maybe the helpers aren't all telling the truth!
Blind trusting others for direction.

Back at it!

Join us tonight for Youth Group.  6pm-7pm.

Fun game to start things off...you may be blind in this one.

We have a great line up for the next few months!!
